TASHKENT, February 4. / "Dunyo" AA/. In Uzbekistan, a Strategy is being developed to achieve gender equality in the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2020-2030, informs the correspondent of “Dunyo” IA.
Gender equality is an important factor in effective economic and social development. In this regard, the further provision of favorable conditions for full self-realization of women in Uzbekistan has been raised to the level of state policy.
The participants in the round table organized by the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis on Women and Gender Equality, the Commission on Gender Equality of the Republic of Uzbekistan, discussed this urgent issue.
During the event, it was noted that in 2019, practical steps were taken to achieve gender equality. In particular, the laws "on guarantees of equal rights and opportunities for women and men" and "on protection of women from harassment and violence" were adopted, and the Committee of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis on women and gender equality was formed.
In addition, in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On measures to further strengthen guarantees of labor rights and support for women’s entrepreneurship” dated March 7, 2019, The Commission on gender equality of the Republic of Uzbekistan was established.
The most important step was the development of a strategy for achieving gender equality in the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2020-2030, which is based on the provisions of the Constitution, the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan
"On guarantees of equal rights and opportunities for women and men", long-term goals and priorities of the country's development, defined in the Strategy of action for the five priority areas of development of the Republic in 2017-2021.
In addition, the main approaches to developing and implementing a Gender strategy are based on the principles of the UN sustainable development Goals and are based on results-based planning, taking into account the context of the country as a whole and each individual region in particular.
The Strategy also includes as priorities fair quality education for all throughout life, including increasing access to higher education for girls, especially from rural areas and vulnerable groups, ensuring gender equality and freedom from violence for all women and girls, and preventing human trafficking.
The development of national gender statistics and gender-sensitive planning and budgeting are also identified as the main tasks.
According to experts and politicians, the adoption and implementation of a Gender strategy will improve the effectiveness of public policy and the use of financial resources in order to eliminate barriers and gaps in the equal rights and opportunities of women and men in the economic, social and political spheres. This will also contribute to achieving de facto and legal gender equality, which will have a positive impact on the quality of life of all citizens of the country.
As a result of the round table, proposals were made to address the problems in achieving gender equality specified in the draft Strategy, and recommendations were adopted that will form the basis for its completion.
